BHS Stage 1 Theory Course – What We’ll Cover
Build your horse care knowledge and prepare for the theory elements of your BHS Stage 1 assessment with our six-week online course. Whether you’re working towards assessment or would simply like to understand more about caring for horses, we’ll guide you through the topics week by week.
All sessions are 7 - 8PM and recorded in case your are unable to attend live.
10th November – Assessment Expectations and Working on a Yard
An introduction to assessment expectations, working on a yard and mucking out.
17th November – Grooming
Grooming equipment, routines and caring for your horse’s coat.
24th November – Behaviour and Health
Understanding horse behaviour and recognising signs of good health.
1st December – Behaviour and Health Continued
Building on the previous session to develop your understanding of horse wellbeing and behaviour.
8th December – Tack and Rugs
Learning about tack and rugs, their uses and how to care for them.
15th December – Feeding and Horse Handling
The principles of feeding and safe horse handling.
This course supports your theory preparation. Practical training and the BHS assessment are arranged separately.
Your coach
The course is delivered by Clare Russell, BHS Stage 4 Complete Coach (BHSII) and current BHS Accredited Professional Coach.
Clare has extensive experience preparing candidates for BHS assessments, delivering training around the BHS syllabuses and supporting learners with their Skills Records.
